Standing for Justice: Walker Law Group Joins the Fight Against NSW Workers Comp Reforms

Steve Walker

Earlier today, two of our Partners, Kevin Sawers and Maddie Brown represented Walker Law Group at an organised rally at Charlestown against the Labor Governments harsh and severe proposed legislative changes to Workers Compensation psychological claims.

This event, organised in collaboration with NSW Nurses and Midwives Association, Teachers Federation NSW, Unions NSW, Australian Manufacturing Workers’ Union, Hunters Workers Women’s Committee and Hunter Workers, shows the strong support across the board for workers in NSW. We are proud to stand alongside these powerful unions and to advocate for all NSW workers. We firmly believe that the legal profession has a responsibility to stand in solidarity with workers, especially when their rights and access to care are under threat.

These proposed changes make it a far more difficult and adversarial process for the workers of NSW to lodge a psychological injury claim.  We feel our duty extends beyond assisting injured workers with their claims, and also encompasses actively opposing disadvantageous legislative changes such as these which would have a broad negative impact on many workers in the state.

By standing in solidarity with the unions who were present today, we hope to send a clear message to the NSW Labor government that we do not stand for the proposed legislative reform. Rather, we stand for justice for all workers.
